Pecan Grove Baptist Church started on September 13, 1981 as a mission of First Baptist Church, Richmond, Texas. A group of members from FBC Richmond responded to God’s calling to plant a new Baptist church in Pecan Grove, a new and rapidly growing community just outside of Richmond, Texas. For the first year and a half, meetings were held in a member’s home, as they began the process of organizing a church. In the Spring of 1983, a new building was completed. The congregation was officially chartered on September 18, 1983 and affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
In 1984 Pecan Grove Baptist School was started to meet a need in the community for Christian based education and as an outreach ministry of the church.
Over the years, PGBC has sought to carry out Jesus’ command to go and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19). Members have been on numerous mission trips to New Orleans, Mexico, and Nicaragua. We’ve been honored to plant Hebron Baptist Church in Jinotega, Nicaragua. Further, we continue to support and visit the work of Christ in southern India through Emmanuel Ministries Inc., where brother Sam George runs an orphanage and Christian school in India.
Our greatest growth in size and ministry came during the mid to late 1990s. During this time, we built a new Christian Family Life building, completed on Dec. 9, 2001. This new building has enabled us to hold larger services, further expand Pecan Grove Baptist School, and hold other community events.
As we continue in our ministry, we seek to know Christ more and more every day and to make Him known however possible.
The Bible
The Bible was written by men who were divinely inspired and is the record of God’s revelation of Himself to mankind. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error for its matter.
God
There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself the demands and necessities of human nature and identifying Himself completely with mankind, yet without sin. In His death on the cross He made provision for the redemption for mankind from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body, ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God. He is fully God in nature and essence. Jesus Christ will return in power and glory to judge the world and to complete His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He inspired holy men of old to write Scriptures. Through illumination He enables people to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He calls men to the Savior, and brings about regeneration. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and gives the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.
Mankind
Man was created by the special act of God, in His own image, and is the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning man was innocent of sin and was endowed by his Creator with freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship and enable man to fulfill the creative purpose of God. Because mankind is created in the image of God, every person possesses dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love.
Salvation
Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man, and is offered freely to all who receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. To be in eternal union with God is Heaven. To be eternally separated from God is to experience Hell. Heaven and Hell are real places of existence.
The Church
A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is a local body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, committed to His teachings, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth. Its scriptural officers are pastors and deacons.
